There are some dishes that are timeless. Maybe it’s a dish which transports you to your childhood, when your grandmother lovingly made it from scratch. Maybe it’s something which just tastes so good, you thought it could never be improved upon.

Well, classics are great, but every now and then, you need to change things up. That’s what we’re doing today–offering some modern twists on your favorite classic bean recipes. Get out of your recipe rut and try these familiar dishes with an unexpected twist:

Tuscan Baked Beans

The fancy name is fagioli al uccelletto, but you can just call it tasty. This twist on baked beans is full of tomatoes, fresh herbs and topped with a crispy bread crumb crust. Nothing wrong with good old-fashioned Boston baked beans, but you’ll turn heads at your next potluck with this white bean delight!

White Bean Turkey Chili with Cinnamon and Cocoa

It doesn’t get much more classic than chili, but this recipe turns everything on its head, using creamy white beans, healthy turkey and giving it a little something special with the addition of cinnamon and unsweetened cocoa. It’s common to add these dessert spices to savory food in Mexico, but we don’t see it much here. You’ll be amazed at the depth of flavor they bring to your chili!
