There is a 4 digit numeric code on the side of the lid which identifies the production date. The first digit is the last number of the year, and the last three digits represent the day of the year based on the Julian date (the number based on 365 days).
For example, the production date code of 2182 stands for: the year 2012 and the day July 1st, the 182nd day of the year.
