It’s been a long, hot summer but now that fall is officially here we are looking forward to the change in season! There is just something so comforting about the return of autumn. Maybe it is just that you get a chance to toss on your favorite sweater for the first time in several months? It could be the beautiful change in scenery as the leaves turn those autumn shades. For us, a big part of the comfort of fall is the return of our favorite fall beans recipes.

Of course, there isn’t anything anywhere that says you can’t enjoy a nice bowl of chili or whip up a pot of soup during the spring and summer. But, it just isn’t the same! No, fall bean recipes like soup, stew, and chili are best enjoyed on a cool autumn evening when the warm contents of your soup bowl can truly provide that deep, satisfying warmth.

As much as we love the baked beans and veggie burgers of summer, we are ready to start enjoying our favorite fall bean recipes once again! If you are having the same cravings as we are, be sure to try some of these recipes this season.

Kidney Bean Jambalaya

You may think of this Cajun classic as food fit for the streets of New Orleans during Mardi Gras, but a hearty pot of jambalaya is also a perfect fall warm-up meal. This recipe takes a no-frills approach to a classic jambalaya recipe, but when the classics are this good why change a good thing? Randall Beans kidney beans, tons of veggies, and other delicious Cajun proteins like shrimp and sausage give this recipe delicious varieties in flavors that makes it one of our favorites.

White Bean Turkey Chili

Can you really call it autumn until you’ve made your first pot of chili for the season? Get fall started right with an incredibly hearty (and healthy!) white bean turkey chili recipe from Flavor the Moments. While chili is classically made with kidney beans and a tomato-based sauce, white chili made with a chicken stock base and white beans is a tasty variety on its own. Usually done with chicken, this recipe substitutes with turkey instead, giving it a nice lean protein so you can enjoy multiple bowls with less guilt!

Black Bean Sweet Potato Chicken Stew

From the rich and sweet flavor to the bright orange color, everything about sweet potatoes make them one of the most iconic autumn foods there are. Well, besides maybe a carved turkey! While starchy, sweet potatoes are actually also quite healthy as a great source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin B, and vitamin C. Incorporating it into your diet during the fall is a great way to ensure you get your fair share of important nutrients. Fortunately, they also go perfect in lots of fall bean recipes like this one because they pair so well with similar creamy and earthy flavors from beans, particularly black beans. 

Italian Vegan Garbanzo Bean Soup

Creamy and nutty garbanzo beans are naturally utilized most of the time in Mediterranean-style recipes like hummus. But, this delicious garbanzo bean soup recipe from Vegan Heaven flips all of that on its head. Using Italian herbs and spices, this fall soup brings a brightness to these beans you don’t normally see… and the results are pretty darn amazing. This is one recipe that chickpea lovers don’t want to miss out on.

Tuscan Fish Chowder

The Keatings have deep East-coast roots, so you know our family loves a nice bowl of chowda! You may think beans are a bit out of place in a chowder recipe, but you’re in for a surprise! The combination of fish and beans in this chowder makes it a heart-healthy recipe that is high in protein, low in fat, and all-around delicious. We used cod in this recipe, but feel free to use your favorite white fish in its place to fit your tastes and preferences.
